How do I use the sample resources for AndroidStudio?

As presented at Google I / O 2017, AndroidStudio now has an example of a resource type that can reference JSON files (useful for viewing lists with different elements at each position).

How do I configure my project to use this new resource? I tried to reproduce the code, but it doesn't compile.

I don't know when this feature was released, but after updating my AndroidStudio to 3.1 Canary 8 and creating a new project from scratch, it worked for me!
