Xcode 9 alongside Xcode 8?

The Xcode 9 installation is completely and completely different from previous versions.

The previous 100s explanations on the net and on SO on how to do this pre-8 are no longer helpful

Xcode9 wants to make changes.

Actually, will mine 8.3.3 be removed?

Do you need to "move 8.3.3 to a different folder before clicking this button?"

What's the really best pipeline having both 8.3.3 and 9?

Considering emlai's great answer below,

another subtlety is that Xcode9 then wants ...

will it work with Xcode8 components and tools?

Interestingly, I found that running Xcode9 once eliminated all simulators for my Xcode 8 installation!

Not.

Not.

Beta Xcodes are named Xcode-beta.app

so you can store them in the same application folder as non-beta.

From the first page of Xcode 9 notes:

Xcode 9 ... can coexist with previous versions of Xcode.

After installing Xcode 9 beta, all simulators disappeared.

To solve this problem, I deleted the beta version from the Applications folder and started using it from the desktop. Simulators were introduced in Xcode 8.

Then I moved the .app to my Applications folder again and everything works fine. I can even use both versions at the same time.
