How to show text on Android system status bar

I am trying to develop an Android Nougat app and I want to show some information / text in the status bar generated from the android tool. So my problem is, I don't know how to show the text in the status bar.

I've added a sample image to show exactly what I mean (red circle). I know this is possible because I saw it in the battery monitor app from the play store.

I have already tried NotificationCombat.Builder but I think this is the wrong way. Possibly an overlay, but after searching I couldn't find anything.

Can someone show me how to do this or give me a hint please?

Edit :: Well, the answer is in the doc. However, after good research and digging, it seems that the consensus among the community is that this is not possible for any application. Only certain icons (such as clock, weather, system information, etc.) can be set on the right side of the status bar.

I'm sorry, there is no more fascinating answer, but at least you can stop stressing why you can't figure it out.



Edit 2 :: Apparently the pre-lollipop devices had access to a private apis, which allowed you to work with system icons (again, think about an alarm icon). Subsequently, the apis were removed. This article fooobar.com/questions/279639 / ... covers the whole situation pretty broadly.

Edit 3 :: If you can live with placing the icon on the left side of the status bar, you can convert the text to a bitmap like this:
