How can an app developer prevent an app store from automatically updating an app under certain conditions?

I would like to know if there is a way for iOS and Android app developers to prevent the Appstore from automatically updating the app on the user's device under certain conditions.

The app will do some internal checks and tests and will continue to ignore updates until the test result is positive.

Could there be something like this anyway?
