Java.io.FileNotFoundException: (Permission denied)

I am binding to read a file placed in my documents folder on Vista. The fix exists at a specific location, but still I get the following error when I try to open an input stream to a file

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Is it possible that you are trying to write a read-only file? From the stack trace, you call the insert method.



Also, do you have permissions to access the file? I mean read permissions on the file itself as well as its parent directory (and its parent, etc.).

It seems that there is no permission to read the file in the java process. You problaby working with UAC and whatever annoying MS stuff in Vista.

I would do the following:



  • Check file permissions.
  • Run Java code with "Run as administrator" -option
  • Disable UAC and always run everything with administrator rights.

From 1.6.0_14 java does something other than accessing virtual paths (symbolic links) 1.6.0_13, and Windows Vista uses them mainly for program files, documents and settings. This may be your problem.
