Link to online resource from safari

I am trying to dynamically generate links to files on a network share that will work in both IE and safari. In IE, the execution href=\\networksharename\foldername\filename

works great and we thought that in our initial testing it works great on safari, but our safari users are unable to display the reports page. These are pdf files. Did I miss something?

First, you must replace the backslash (\) with a forward slash (/). The full url might also be helpful (something like smb: // server / shared-folder / ...), but I don't know what share you have.

Are stakes in DFS? MacOS doesn't support DFS.
