Which iPhone system fonts are safe to use and which are recommended for what display purpose?
Fonts are like coins lost in forrest: you never know where to look in the first place. Say that: -)
So the problem is: I come from the world of web developers and my mind is completely confused about fonts. There is a UIFont class that can be used to specify how the text in the label should appear. Unfortunately, I feel like I have to know a lot of font secrets in order to use it correctly. Does anyone know what fonts I can specify and which are "safe to use"?
With safety in use, I mean which ones are not highly dependent on the user's language, that is, completely inaccessible if the user has Chinese. Not sure if it will be a different font, all these funny characters and stuff. I want to use a font in a "dense graphics environment" where I have a design that has been created to match that font. It would look like shit if in Japan the font is in italics, and in Greece they see huge short and bold letters.
So what are the best fonts to use to avoid most ugliness problems? arount internationalization and different devices?
Here is a list of available fonts for iPhone OS.
Alternatively, you can use the UIFont API systemFontOfSize:
, boldSystemFontOfSize:
and italicSystemFontOfSize:
- any of which I would guess would handle localization intelligently.
