Unable to connect to mobile device

I am developing an application for the second generation Workabout Pro from PSION Teklogix.

My company recently went through an upgrade: operating systems and versions of Visual Studio, so I'm stuck with Windows Vista (and Visual Studio 2008).

I have connected the same Workabout Pro box that I have always used for development and I cannot install ActiveSync in Vista, but the device is also not recognized in Mobile Sync Center. To top it off, when I try to deploy a project for testing, Visual Studio tells me that "Failed to connect to device."

How can I take it off?

I've used these devices before. The Psion SDK provides a PtxPxa27x: ARMV4I emulation image to help deploy / connect to their devices.

Anyway, I would provide Psion support (if you have) and see what they can do to help you connect to Visual Studio on Vista. If you don’t have Psion support I can help you if you don’t find another solution as I have a line for some Psion support supporters I can poll.

Why can't you install ActiveSync on Vista?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just looked. The Mobile Sync Center manages this ... duh. :)

Doing a little research quickly I see this :

Allows you to set up new partnerships, sync content, and manage music, pictures, and videos on devices running Windows Mobile (Windows Mobile 2003 or later).

For Windows Embedded CE 4.2, 5.0, Pocket PC 2002, and Smartphone 2002 devices, basic connectivity support includes USB and serial connectivity, Internet Pass-through with Internet connectivity, and file browsing.

It seems to me that if you are using CE 4.2 / 5.0 it might be a Psion ROM issue. Found some links with some suggestions .
