Does VMWare Fusion 2 have a "linked clones" feature as well as a VMWare workstation?

The name pretty much says it, but for those of you familiar with the latest version of VMWare Fusion and the "linked clone" feature found on the VMWare workstation, you can confirm if the feature is currently present or missing from Fusion.

This could be considered an update to this previous question: Replacing the Virtual PC / Server with VMWare Fusion / Server Environment for Development

This indicates that Fusion does not support linked clones, but it looks like it may have been written before Fusion 2.0 came out.

I tend to suspect this is not the case, as the information on the respective product pages highlights the feature for the workstation, but does not mention it at all for the Fusion.

VMWare Fusion supports linked clones, but doesn't give you a GUI to create them.



Take a close look at http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-5611 . In short, you will create a base virtual machine, copy its virtual hard disk to a safe location, and then manually generate new virtual machines using the original hard disk as a base. It's a very simple process and you will get exactly what you want.

VMWare fusion 2 does not have cloning functionality like VMWorkstation does. You will have to physically copy the vm folder to a new location in order to "clone" the vm. Pain yes, but this is what we have done with VMServer for years.

fusion 2 has full support for linked clones except for actually creating them. If you are using a workstation to create clones, you can run them in fusion 2 without any issue or feature.
