Why can't I find my cookies in Temporary Internet Files?

I am trying to convert a cookie from www.example.com

to .example.com

.

So, I thought I would go to C: \ Users \ SWEAVER \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Temporary Internet Files and just delete the cookie.

To my surprise, there were not only temporary internet files (images / html ...), but also very few cookies. And of course the cookie for my site was nowhere to be seen. However, this DEFINITELY works because I store the GUID there and this GUID can be recovered in different processes iexplore.exe

.

I just went and cleared the cookies + temp and now there are not any files in my temp internet directory, but the ARE cookie works both on my site and amongst others stackoverflow!

I had a couple of wierd bluescreens the other day - and in fact my event log got corrupted. but i'm not sure if there is something to do with it?

I'm out of ideas, but I'm pretty sure I can clear my app cookies without loading my daily cookies. Did anyone know about this or have seen the problem before?

System: Server 2008 with IE7

Cookies are stored in several locations. Vista has 3 locations. See here:
