Failed to add route: cannot create file if this file already exists

I am getting this error when using c:> route add <route_and_interface_here>

This happens on an RRAS server that has a PPTP connection between VPN peers and a static route that requires dialing. This route appears in the RRAS routing table, but does not appear in the c:> route print table, which might be the first source of the problem.

Has anyone seen this before? Anyone with an expert exchange account who can read the suggested answers there?

The problem may be related to applying SP2 on Win2k3 and installing RRAS after that from an RTM disk.

Give the route metric high value and then the PPtp adapter adding the route.



The problem seems to be related to the calculation of the Windows 7 interface metrics.
