What is the best way to get avi files in flv format?

I need to embed a video on a client's website and they gave the following guidelines:

  • should display as flash (FLV format)
  • if hosted by a third party (e.g. Youtube), the video cannot link to an external company website.
  • if it is hosted outside a company (for example, Youtube), the video cannot have ads for another company.

I'm assuming I'm looking for an AVI-FLV converter?

Your customer requirements exclude the use of YouTube. You are probably better off posting them on a client site.

Flash imports your AVI movies and converts them to FLV. The video import tool can be found under File → Import → Import Video.

You can use Riva VX on windows or ffmpegX on Mac.

"The best way? FFmpeg is the answer to this, its cross platform and you can script it easily.

ffmpeg -i input.avi -acodec libmp3lame -vcodec flv output.flv

If you need a tool to do this (requires a human) I suggest Miro http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/

Super & copy; transforms anything into anything .. can't live without it. Got a remote UI, but I'm ready to handle it.

Miksoft's Mobile Media Converter is the best. it allows you to batch convert files and also allows you to set the output quality. It's FREE too.
