InstallShield 2009 - SdLogonUserInformation issue (list is empty.)

I need a setup created with InstallShield 2009 to install a Windows service. The service requires its own account to run. These accounts must be created / selected from setup.

To do this, I add the corresponding login panel dialogs: Dialogs -> All Dialogs -> Right Click -> New Dialog ...

In a new dialog: Next -> Login information panel and associated child dialogs -> Next -> Finish

However, when I run the setup and try to view existing users, it doesn't matter if I try to view domains, users or whatever, I always get a message with the message

"The list is empty ."

Detailed description:

  • In the User Information dialog box, click Browse
  • In the Browse dialog box for the user account, I find a domain or server search -> Result: List is empty .

  • In the Browse for User Account dialog box, enter the name of the server I am logged on to in the Server Name text box and click View Username → Result: Server not found

  • In the Browse for User Account dialog box, enter Administrator in the Username text box, specifying the server name still entered in the Server Name text box and click OK → Result: Server not found "

  • After clicking Cancel (in the Login Information dialog box) I enter SERVERNAME \ Administrator in the Username text box and the corresponding password in the Password text box and click Next → Result: Server not found

  • I click "New information"

  • I click "Browse Domain or Server" → Result: The list is empty .

  • I click "Browse Groups" -> Result: Server not found

How to fix it?

There are so many people having problems with these dialogs, it's almost ridiculous that Acresso was unable to provide support for this.

However, the solution is simple: The server name is required to view any ISNetApi groups or users. For the server name to be checked or viewed, it needs the ComputerBrowser service.

And guess what ... the ComputerBrowser service is disabled by default in Windows Server 2008 (and other OS versions).

If you really want to enable it, you also need to enable the printer and file sharing from the Network and Sharing Center (because the ComputerBrowser service depends on them).
