Scanning, spiders, data acquisition
I want to write a scanner for inventorying infrastructure (routers, WAPS, systems, etc.).
So as I understand the seeker, implementation is a different story.
So I have an application sitting on a server and how to deploy it. How does the seeker start looking? Let's say I wanted to inventory unknown subnets, etc.
How does the scanner send data?

The only program that will do what you are talking about is insecure.org's nmap (authored by fedor, if I remember correctly.) It works on multiple platforms. It might be helpful to start with one of the dozens to hundreds of network and infrastructure scanners available to get an idea of what you can do and how to do it.
