Disable "Adjust Date / Time" in Vista Home Edition

There are quite a few client laptops in my company. These laptops are running Windows Vista Home Edition.

I was recently asked if I could find a way to disable the user's ability to adjust the system time.

  • My first thought was to use gpedit, but as I understood this is not available in the home version.

  • Then I looked for registry changes that I could use, but I drew a space. Apparently the gpedit bits related to user rights are not related to registry settings.

We automatically adjust the system time from our software that runs on a laptop. This means that we need a way to disable the user's ability to adjust the date and time, but allow our program (running under this user context) to customize it for them.

Anyone got any ideas or knows a way to get gpedit to work on a home edition?

(Our software is .NET based and has auto-update features, so we can use that in a solution if needed.)

Update:

Local security options are also not available in Vista Home.

Short answer? Don't try to get rid of consumer products in a business environment (I know, maybe not your fault).

You might be able to change your local security policies, but you have to do this when you are logged in as a local administrator, which means you do it one by one personally, or allow a user to run your software as an administrator and try to make yours software.

The problem is that the user is an administrator and can still change the system time.
