Blackberry and MDS simulator
The first time I used both BlackBerry JDE 6.0.0 and its MDS-CS version, it worked very well. After reloading a pair of simulators to test the Browser-Push app, the 9800 simulator has disconnected from the Simulator Mobile Device Service Simulator. All the rules are important, but in my case, rule # 3 allowed me to connect the simulator 's internet browser after deactivating the WiFi connection
-
MDS must run before running the simulator; and it is listening on port 8080, so make sure nothing else is listening on that port before starting it.
-
The simulator seems to be picking up the MDS location from a file
rimpublic.property
(underMDS/config
) that is part of the MDS installation, andrimpublic.property
should have the full computer name in it, notlocalhost
. -
If you ran your simulator without running MDS, you will need to delete the .dmp files in [installroot] / [phonemodel]. This issue often occurs with BlackBerry JDE 6.0.0.
These rules seem to work for me so far.

Ok, there are a few common mistakes when using the MDS simulator with the BlackBerry Simulator.
- If you open network http connections then you need to add "deviceside = false" parameter to your urls
- If you are behind a proxy you need to add a few config options for MDS Simulator to check here

I just spent 2 days on various tips on the Internet about MDS (and there are many), but no one helped me.
The solution for me was to disable network registration when starting the simulator in eclipse.
Edit: This helped in some situations, but MDS is still not always stable.
