Can push email be included in the web application?

I read about this new feature in Gmail called push email , which appears to be for smartphones.

But I'm wondering if it is possible to include this in a web app.

So, let's say I allow Gmail to push email to a specific HTML form, and then I have a web app that handles emails.

Does it make sense?
