Visual Web Developer 2005 Express loads very slowly

I'll admit I'm not a Visual Studio product guru at all. I am using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and I am trying to download another project.

This project is a website with many pages.

After loading VWD, it asks to open the project and I select the solution file. Then it takes a very long time to load. The status bar indicates that links are being loaded, many of which are in the System.Web area. *. It seems to be happening between different packages. The download time is 20 to 30 minutes or more. Some others have stated that their projects open fine when they go to File> Open Website ... and select the project directory from there. Any ideas what might be the problem and how to fix it?

Edit: it finally finished downloading after about an hour.

I ended up finding my solution.

I am missing one of the resources (Crystal Reports) because it does not work with the VWD Express version. Rather than warn me about it, it just loops around to download links all day for some reason.

The solution seems to be deleting the web.config file and re-creating it from SVN.

If you can explain why this is happening, you might get a winning answer.

How much memory do you have on this computer? I highly doubt that the issue is directly related to the actual link loading.

I also really need to load VWD projects on five different machines with varying amounts of RAM, up to 2GB, which should be enough for any practical purpose. I learned to live with him.

One suggestion, however, is an upgrade to 2008.
