Piwik Web Analytics - Anyone with experience?

I'm considering trying to get more granular analytics for my sites than the free plan for my current provider, Clicky , provides.

Piwik looks like a strong contender in the analytics space (and I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before) but I want to make sure I don't throw the baby away with bath water instead of replacing it.

Does anyone have any experience with this software and in particular are there people out there who have tried tweaking the code or developing their own plugin?

To add to ghommey's answer: we are also using Piwik right now and it matches the bill for our purposes. Separating IP ranges is not really an issue for us as we use separate development and deployment servers.

In terms of configuration, I wrote a couple of Piwik plugins, one of which allowed us to enable SSO for our (non-PHP) project. Writing the code itself was relatively straightforward; however, their authentication cookies violate RFC HTTP cookies (RFC2109 and RFC2068) in the sense that they use illegal characters, so there may be other dragons in there as well.

It is possible to activate the IP addresses of the latest version (q1 2010).
