A good mp3 player for a music site to sell songs?

I am creating a website for those who start a music studio. They need an mp3 player so people can hear the music. They also want the songs to have a download and purchase link. I usually stay away from any flash files, but I think flash player is the way to go for it right? Is there a good recommendation for this type of thing? I know there are millions, but I wanted to check. Is there a good place where you can post / sell songs offering a custom player? Thank.

XSPF Web Music Player is a widely used option. I've also had some luck with Flowplayer .

However, you should be warned that if you plan on purchasing your MP3 files, they will be able to see the URL at the MP3 location in the source you are calling to download the Flash based player. From there, it's just a few clicks to download the MP3 directly. Unless you are using a streaming server that much more work for customization.

If you want to avoid this, you should probably have 30 second MP3 samples of your songs.

Personally, I would use YouTube as a local music player. This way, you can add videos to your songs (or even one or more static images) and post them to YouTube, letting them handle the hosting and player. Embedding videos on your site is a piece of cake and they won't use up your bandwidth at all. YouTube's terms of service seem to allow this; see http://www.youtube.com/t/terms .

Song sales can be handled with a simple PayPal link. Whenever you receive a payment letter (which may contain the name / artist of the purchased song), you can send the download link by email. This link can be linked to a permanent download (which is a "fuck it" approach to piracy), or it can be a link to a temporary MP3 copy that you post on your site (which you can delete after a day or two, or when- or).
