How can I get my Elastic IP to work for my EC2 instance?

I installed an EC2 instance which went very smoothly and now I can access it via public DNS.

Once I got it right, I asked for an Elastic IP, which was then assigned to the instance. It seems to work correctly and the description of my instances from the command line shows the correct IP assigned to the instance.

However, when you try to access the instance via IP, I get the time. There is a timeout on ping and in the browser. Ping also gets disabled if I try to ping an IP from an instance.

So far I have tried to detach the IP and reassign it, I tried to release the IP and start a new one and I rebooted the instance but nothing worked.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

The problem has been resolved. For some inexplicable reason, Firefox was caching the previous HTTP response from this IP address. Clearing the Firefox cache resolved the issue.
