What is the average and / or maximum height of the viewport?

At this resolution, I would assume the browser window is maximized.
I also expected this to be browser specific and different depending on the browsers that allow customization of toolbars, etc.
There is no answer to this question!
Browse the browsers (and versions) that access the site, then make assumptions based on the default configurations of those browsers.

Google has released some stats on their now defunct browser-sized tool .
In short, with a height of 500 pixels, you get 90% of the users, 550 pixels gives you 80%, and then walks away pretty quickly from there, up to 40% of the users at 650 pixels.
