XSL Processors: FO for the .net Platform

I am currently looking for a good xsl: fo solid state processor to use in a .net application. I've seen a few, but many of them use a java virtual machine and this is what I want to run on the web server. I must have a .net implementation that I have found so far, which is open source fo.net on codeplex, although it does not seem to implement the entire xsl: fo standard like many other products using the java virutal machine do. Can anyone recommend any products. Open source would be great, but I can look at commercial solutions as well.

Some XSL-FO engines with .NET interfaces:

  • RenderX XEP
  • Ibex PDF Creator is relatively inexpensive. They have a developer license fee. There is no server cost or runtime. Once you have developed an application using Ibex, you can deploy the application to any number of test or production servers at no additional cost.

For a server, you might have to think twice. I wouldn't go with FOP (or NFOP for that matter) because no one seems to support it (the old branch stopped at 0.28 sometimes in 2006 and the new branch is still at 0.95 s) 2008. I used RenderX for a project and lately I switched to Ecrion because they have a good designer and their server is the fastest of my tests Whatever you choose, you need to consider a set of features that will become important in time (for example, what output formats you get, visual design support, XSL-FO 1.1 support, etc.), speed and especially memory consumption In a server environment you may need to process 10 or 100 requests in parallel, so memory consumption is big factor.

There is NFop (and download ) which is a .Net port of the Java version from Apache (the .Net version is currently in beta).

I did a great job with xml2pdf alt-soft . It used to be inexpensive, now the "workstation" version is free.
