64-bit support in C ++ Builder
I am considering upgrading the Borland / Codegear / Embarcadero C ++ Builder kit that we are using for some of our code. I would like to see 64-bit support, but that doesn't seem like a feature in the 2009 release. I swear I saw a roadmap that suggested there would be a new version released in mid-2009 that would include x64, but now that document is lost to me. Does anyone know of a release schedule or roadmap for Commodore?

Everyone seems to link to the same link, http://dn.codegear.com/article/36620 . But right now there is nothing there. Everyone who says that they allegedly mentions 64-bit support at this address comes to 2009 Q2. Therefore, you remember correctly. But the original source is not available from Embarcadero.
It is available via google cache . It places the "Commodore" release in "mid 2009" with features including cross-compilation targeting native 64-bit code from a 32-bit IDE.

Embarcadero has just released a new roadmap for C ++ Builder for 2012:
Coming soon in the RAD IDE near you, the future of C ++ is 64bit, C ++ 11, ARM, iOS and Android

I see that there is now a new "RAD Studio, Delphi and C ++ Builder Roadmap" posted here in August 2010 that says "Projected Availability 1st Half 2011".
UPDATE: In David Intersimone's blog in September 2011, he answered the question, "What about C ++ builder 64 bit?" Is it discontinued? "c" We are working on a new next generation C ++ Builder compiler that will allow us to get to 64-bit and ARM chips. The compiler is still being built, so it cannot do XE2. It's on our roadmap and do it well for you. โElsewhere I saw it predicted (by Embarcadero) to appear in XE3.

Support for 64-bit version of C ++ Builder will be released in Q4 2012. However, C ++ Builder XE3 was released and it was suggested to get 64-bit beta support if you bought support at the same time.
The information from the XE3 Road tour was that they still don't know if the 64-bit variant will be "large" or not. This means that if you buy XE3, you now need to buy an upgrade (again) to get 64-bit in Q4. If it's not a "major" update, you'll get it for free.
I was going to upgrade XE2 to XE3, but I am waiting for the official release of the 64-bit version. If I was waiting several years for 64-bit support, I can wait a few more months ...

This article is about Commodore (Delphi), which will be released in winter 2008 with 64-bit support. It mentions Delphi Tiburon (due to 2009) which has additional features, followed by C ++ with the same features (and hopefully 64-bit support).
However, the "Borland" article he links to has disappeared, so I think all bets are off.
Seriously, I don't believe there is room in the IDE space for two inexpensive products. I think Visual Studio will always be a worthwhile product of choice with anyone opting for a free solution like Eclipse CDT or bare-bones GCC.I think the Borland products were fine for their time (only surpassed by the TopSpeed โโ/ JPI compilers and Microsoft's early efforts to shame), but they made their dash and are now classified as a museum (just my opinion, I was "I used to be wrong and various other failures).
