Please suggest a tool to create a domain model diagram

Can anyone suggest a tool to create a domain model diagram? Some details:

  • I am running Windows now
  • The tool is free
  • This is not a pencil and a piece of paper.
  • It should be easy to use, i.e. I don't want to spend more than 5 minutes on a relatively simple diagram.
  • I hate MS Visio. IMHO, it's poorly designed.

This is not a pencil and a sheet of paper

Tablet wacom and paint.net?

It really depends on what kind of use you want for the model. If he uses so you can understand a domain or connect with a guy near you, a pen and paper might be the best tool.

If you want to fit it into your presentation, then Visio is good enough. (For example, some of the OMG UML specifications use Visio.)

If you want to do more sophisticated validation and transformation (which is unusual for a domain model), or link it to a later implementation model, then this is a complete UML tool for the underlying model.

IMHO, it's poorly designed.

Unfortunately, I didn't use a UML tool that was as easy to use and as intuitive as I would have liked (the closest one is OmniGraffle , which had ease of use for creating diagrams, but there was no UML model behind it).

JUDE Community Edition for UML runs on Windows, is free, is not pencil and paper, easy to use (IMO), not Visio. It fits all your criteria - try it.

If you're just looking for a drawing tool, take a look: DIA , Violet, or UMLet (I especially love this one).

For a modeling tool (I don't think this is what you are looking for), I would suggest: ArgoUML or EclipseUML .
