Do I need to enable the Service Broker endpoint in SQL 2005 to use SQLCacheDependency?

My question does have three related parts, which I hope you can help me figure out -

  • Do I need to enable the Service Broker endpoint in SQL 2005 to use the SQLCacheDependency mechanism?

  • If so, is there a specific port to use?

  • If none of the webserver servers and sql server are on the domain, what type of authentication is required, if at all? Certificates?

No, you do not need to enable the broker service endpoint to use the SQLCacheDependency. The Service Broker endpoint is only used to send SQL Service Broker messages from one instance to another.
