Any XML based TEX alternative?

When I started learning about TEX, I found it descriptive. I think any XML based alternative will do the job better. And everyone would have no problem learning TEX. I found a lot of time. Does anyone know of any XML based alternative? And if there is compatibility between this thing and XML (with the same elements or one can be transformed into another), then that will be good.

I believe the closest I can think of is a Docbook . It is a fairly flexible markup language for creating technical documentation, from man pages, articles, books.

However, I think TeX is the best choice. More power, more tools, and just a nicer output. If you want to create very beautiful documents with TeX / LaTeX, but don't know too much about it, I suggest you take a look at LyX, a beautiful graphics editor that allows you to create documents more or less like in a text editor, but with much nicer results and access to the full power of LaTeX (albeit sometimes by embedding LaTeX commands in your LyX document).

I assume your goal is to manually create documents. If you want to automatically generate them from something else, Docbook might be your best bet.

I think you are probably barking the wrong tree, but there is Prince , an XML + CSS to PDF engine.

Looks like TeXML "XML syntax for TeX ..." might be what you are looking for.

There is a language called MathML . I don't know about this in the first place, so don't take this as a recommendation.
