The Eclipse JavaScript project "was not tested because its include path is incomplete."

I am using Eclipse and would like to start using the JavaScript validation tools that are now available. I think this is version 3.4, but Help | About ... doesn't show the version number, only tells me she built 20090920-1017.

This is a pre-existing EJB / JSP application to which I have added the JavaScript Toolbox facet.

The problem is that JavaScript validation fails. It shows one error under "JavaScript Problems" with the message:

The project was not validated since its include path is incomplete. Cannot find the class definition for String. Please fix the include path then try validating this project

In the window | Preferences | Web | JavaScript | Include path, "JavaScript Global Context Root" is set to "Project" (default). "User Libraries" is empty.

There are four tabs in the project properties under JavaScript Libraries: Libraries, Global Supertype, Source, and Projects. There is no Include Path option here.

The Libraries tab contains Built-in ECMAScript Library, Web Project Support for JSDT, ECMA 3, Firefox and Internet Explorer Browser Support Library. Additional options are not displayed when you select Add JavaScript Library.

The Global Supertype tab lists three support libraries (all unchecked) and displays the Default Supertype as Global () in ECMAScript System Libraries.

Source tag shows Included: (All) and Excluded: ********* / *******. Ycomp.js; ******** * / ** *****. JSP "

The Projects tab in the Linked Projects list is empty.

All default JavaScript settings, except for the Excluded path and the addition of Firefox and Internet Explorer libraries. However, the error appears regardless of these parameters.

Questions:

  • Are the project settings and settings correct (most are default)?
  • What settings are missing or incorrect?
  • Are there any other related settings I should be looking at?
  • What's missing in the include path?
  • How do I fix the configuration so JavaScript validation can be used?

EDIT: This is version 3.5. Found it by opening Help | Report Bug or Enhancement | Eclipse.org | Eclipse Platform and it pre-populated the version number in the bug report form. Is this really the only way to find the Eclipse install version? I'm very surprised if I don't see it in the Help section.

EDIT: I can run checks manually and I get many other errors:

  • Array cannot be resolved to type.
  • HttpRequest could not be resolved for the type.
  • Function type cannot be resolved. This indirectly refers to the required library files.
  • Type Number cannot be resolved. This indirectly refers to the required library files.
  • The object type could not be resolved. This indirectly refers to the required library files.
  • String type cannot be resolved. This indirectly refers to the required library files.
