Designing sharepoint pages - what can I use?

I download and install sharepoint 2007 prerequisites using the Bamboo Vista software installation utility on my Vista Home Premium machine. I am wondering if I need Sharepoint Designer 2k7 for WYSIWYG development or can I use Sharepoint Tools for Visual Studio 2008?

What are my options?

I cannot find an article that outlines my options.

thank

No, you need a Sharepoint Designer if you are trying to do some WYSIWYG editing, or you can edit / create pages manually. In fact, early versions (before 2007) were not a designer or product designed specifically for Sharepoint, and the only tool available for WYSIWYG was FrontPage: P

Various tools.

Sharepoint Designer (SPD) is used for embedded workflows, modification of existing pages and heap behind the scenes and admin responsibilities. It is advertised as an end-user type tool, but too complex for that. it

Sharepoint Tools for Visual Studio helps you create new items, create new workflows, or complete workflows. Far above the end user and depending on which way you want to go, you can create material in visual studio and then use it with SPD.

Infopath is used to create forms that are stored in sharepoint, an end user level tool. Once you have the form stored in sharepoint, you can use SPD to create a workflow based on out-of-the-box workflow activities, or you can use visual studio to create a more complex workflow. If you have a corporate version of MOSS or Forms Server, you can display these forms instead of requiring users to install Infopath on their local computers.

So, if you are building a development / learning machine, install all of them.

InfoPath (part of MS Office) is a great tool for designing data forms for SharePoint.

The SharePoint Designer seems to be suitable for general design tasks.

You can open the VS 2008 moss site but you get a visual visual effect, figure out what to do with the content areas, you can still edit the page source the same.

With that said, you will need a sharepoint developer if you will be dealing with him often as he has other features that come in handy.
