Sharing documents Is it possible to restrict a section in a document based on user. Egg: The document contains three sections, Section 1, Section 2, Section 3 Three users must contribute to the preparation of the documents, User 1 for section 1 User 2 for section 2 User 3 for section 3.

SharePoint can only set permissions on discrete objects (lists, libraries, sites, documents, and so on) and cannot segment a single file.

We are doing two different things here to solve this problem. We either create a library for a given document, or we have separate files for each section (this is also useful for collaborating with huge documents, even if you don't need to restrict access to the section), or we create separate libraries for the sections. The latter is the best way to ensure security as it reduces the risk of someone creating a document and not setting permissions.

FWIW: I quickly checked if Word allows me to allow me DRM sections of the document, the answer is no.

Cheers, Reeves

SharePoint has no idea what actually is in the document (other than being indexed for search).

To do what you want, you will have to split the document into 3 different documents and use item level permissions for each, or put each piece in a separate document library that already has permission levels set for the user (s) you want add to this part.

HI,

SharePoint limits all collaboration and security features at the document level. The solution that we have used with some success is to have 3 document libraries with one access per user.
The quick part is present in documents in these libraries, which retrieve information in the Document Libraries column.

The fourth Document Library has 3 search columns that retrieve information from more than 3 columns in the Document Library.
This can be linked to a single document using Quickparts again.

Respectfully,
