Usability tests of commonly used software

Does anyone know where I can find usability testing results for commonly used software?

I want to make informed decisions about:

  • what bits of existing packages to copy in my software
  • how to choose between multiple packages (programs, components, etc.).

Indeed, I would be grateful for anything here. I'm interested in: websites, office programs, email clients, you name it.
I want objective, empirical information about what is good and what is not in specific cases.

This question is inspired by my answer to this markdown question .

useit.com gives out awards for the top 10 X on a semi-regular basis, such as the top 10 intranets in 2009 , 10 of the best user interfaces, applications , etc.

In case I didn't elaborate, useit.com is the website for Jakob Nielsen , and the top 10 lists are the results of NN / g usability studies .
