I don't think βgeneration is already an important term. The only * GL classification that was really clearly recognized was 4GL, and luckily the 4GLs were pretty much dying out.
This leaves almost everything in the 3GL box, from system languages ββto scripting languages ββto functional programming. A category that encompasses this variety is of little practical use.
