Extract icon / thumbnail for a file

I want to extract Icon / Thumbnail (different size) file from windows shell in my project. I can extract the thumbnail using outside of any problem, but the problem occurred when working with files that did not have a thumbnail. The problem is I can't get the bitmap as Windows explorer shows. I get black when the explorer shows a nice gray shadow.

The problem is how you save it. To have an alpha channel with a gradient, you need to save it as PNG.
