The app was unable to start correctly error 0xc0000142 when I try to open the xampp shell through the control panel

Using the latest xampp with PHP 7

[cmd.exe] The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000142). Click "OK" to close the application. I am getting a message that the application cannot start when I press the "shell" button in the xampp control panel.

I have reinstalled xampp. Does not work. Updated my environment tables in mysql / bin to use MYSQL globally. I can open xampp_shell.bat (and I will probably do it now.

Well, I know this will sound like a dumb solution, but it works for me. Press the shell button several times until a command prompt window opens.

Maybe Win10 (Build 1703) might be the cause.



Quick Fix: Install xamp control file compatibility on Windows 8 and run it as administrator.
