About the screen in the iPhone app. Do you need?

I created an app that goes without saying. What is etiquette in the iPhone world: do I still need to have an "O" button that explains what the app, website, email, all of that does? Or is it unnecessary?

I don't quite agree with zoul here. I think every application should include information on how to contact the developer and / or get support if needed. Yes, you can put this information on the App Store listing, but that makes it difficult for your client. I would say yes, add the About view.

I wouldn't consider it necessary, but again I would get a second opinion that your application is self-explanatory; you wrote it after all :) Seriously, I've found a lot of "obvious" interface and behavior that I've written over the years to be different, and it helped get opinions from others (especially those who don't use computers for their day to day work) to bring more clarity.

But in terms of etiquette, I would say no: in fact, if your application is really self-explanatory, it just interferes with what your application does, and that's what consumers have.

I think you almost always need it, especially a paid app. You want it to be as easy as possible for your users to contact you for support (no need to worry about what the user might say about their contact information) because happy users leave good reviews and get support often helps you understand what you need to work in your application. Also, if you've released a free app, but you also have paid apps to sell, I think the free apps need a screen that will send your users to your App Store page; after all, you can also get some free, non-invasive promotion when you give something back.

The only time you probably don't want to turn on the screen is when you don't want to hear from users. If you're giving away a free app and you don't want to deal with people who have problems with it, then don't even bother with the box. Or, if you are Apple, since the near boxes in their applications will be redundant.

The etiquette in the iPhone world is for normal application development. If your application doesn't need an "About" screen, don't do it. Those looking for support can always check your app description in the App Store.
